Dershowitz to Former Prosecutor: Don't Accuse Me of Defending Trump

Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz during an appearance Sunday on MSNBC with former Assistant U.S. District Attorney Mimi Rocah told her not to “accuse him” of defending President Donald Trump.

“You are implying in a kind of McCarthyite way that I am somehow defending Trump and that I am making his case,” he yelled. “Shame on you! I am making a civil liberties case! I am not part of the Trump defense team and don’t you dare accuse me of doing that!”

Rocah told Dershowitz she was only “responding to what you’re saying.”

“I am the only person on this show who is trying to defend civil liberties!” Dershowitz said.

“Don’t accuse me of making a case for somebody I am not making a case for—I am not responsible for what Trump said earlier, I am not responsible for what he says now. I am not defending him! I am not defending him! I am defending civil liberties!”

Dershowitz was on the show to discuss a report that Trump had knowledge about a meeting between his oldest son and Russians promising dirt on campaign rival Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election. Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen made the claim recently, according to sources who spoke with CNN.

Trump has repeatedly denied any knowledge of the meeting.

Dershowitz said he would be making the same case for Clinton if she had been elected and if prosecutors were attempting to “stretch the law.”

“Nobody is stretching the law here,” host Kacie Hunt responded before ending the segment.
