April Ryan: Omarosa Revealed Huge Security Lapses in White House
Omarosa Manigault Newman’s revelation that she taped her December 2017 firing by White House chief of staff John Kelly shows “national security protocols were not followed” at the White House, journalist April Ryan said Sunday.
In remarks on CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” Ryan said the former reality show star from “The Apprentice” “is in trouble.”
“You're not supposed to bring your cell phone in the Situation Room, in the Roosevelt Room, you're not supposed to have your phone in the office of the chief of staff and you're not supposed to have your cell phone in the national security office,” Ryan said.
“And this leads to a broader question: Are national security protocols being followed in this White House? We're talking about Russia. Now you got to worry about Omorosa and others who might have cell phones taping things and they could be hacked.”
“National security protocols were not followed,” Ryan asserted, adding: “There is a credibility issue with her, I'll be honest with you, but there are tapes and this is a national security issue. This is not just about a book anymore… and she's in trouble. “
Reaction to Omarosa’s revelation was swift — and came from left and right.
Former Fox News host Greta Van Susteren posted:
Taping in the Situation Room in WH? You would think that WH would have better security than that…..that is a very important room to our nation’s security and it is that easy to record in it? pic.twitter.com/4QxuJmsAIu

And Ilan Goldenberg, a former Obama administration special adviser on the Middle East and Iran, described the taping inside the Situation Room as “insane.”
As someone who spent a fair amount of time in the Situation Room, I can’t even begin to wrap my head around how insane this is https://t.co/OC3Z8I0FKO

National security lawyer Bradley Moss added:
How does @OMAROSA get an unsecured cell phone into the Situation Room? What is wrong with these folks in the White House?
