‘Tribute in Light’ 9/11 memorial shines bright on final night
The 9/11 Memorial and Museum’s “Tribute in Light” shone brightly over New York City for a final night Friday.
The light display, which nearly didn’t happen this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, will go dark by dawn Saturday.
This year, it commemorated those who died at the World Trade Center on the 19th anniversary of the deadliest terror attack on American soil.
The museum’s initial decision to cancel the light display caused widespread outrage, and the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation quickly pushed to mount its own display.
The museum relented and agreed to stage the “Tribute in Light” after Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised state assistance in making sure the workers who install and maintain the display would be safe.
