Married North Carolina Senate candidate admits sexting with another woman
North Carolina Democratic Senate candidate Cal Cunningham confirmed he sexted with a woman who was not his wife — but plans to keep campaigning.
“I have hurt my family, disappointed my friends, and am deeply sorry. The first step in repairing those relationships is taking complete responsibility, which I do. I ask that my family’s privacy be respected in this personal matter,” Cunningham told the local The News & Observer, adding he would not leave the race.
“Would make my day to roll over and kiss you right now,” Cunningham wrote in one of the steamy messages to Arlene Guzman Todd, a public relations professional in California.
“I want to kiss you,” Todd said elsewhere. “I want a night with you.”
The sexting revelation comes just hours after the Republican incumbent, Sen. Thom Tillis announced he had tested positive for coronavirus and was quarantining.
Tillis was present at a Rose Garden ceremony announcing the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court last week, which has now seen multiple high profile attendees contract the deadly virus.
President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump. Sen. Mike Lee, Sen. Ron Johnson, Kellyanne Conway and Chris Christie have all tested positive for COVID-19 as the latest outbreak continues unabated.
