France to outlaw Islamic group ‘directly involved’ in beheading of schoolteacher

French President Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday that an Islamic group linked to Hamas would be outlawed because it was “directly involved” in the beheading of a schoolteacher.

The move to ban the Sheikh Yassin Collective, an Islamist group named after one of the founders of the Palestinian terror organization, will be taken up by the French cabinet on Wednesday, the Times of Israel reported.

It’s the latest move in the European country to clamp down on Islamist extremists following the attack.

“This is not about making more statements,” Macron said Tuesday. “Our fellow citizens expected actions. These actions will be stepped up.”

The group’s founder, Abdelhakim Sefrioui, is among more than a dozen people being held by police in the wake of Friday’s deadly attack on 47-year-old educator Samuel Paty, the BBC said.

Authorities said Chechen refugee Abdoulakh Anzorov, 18, killed Paty as he headed home from the junior high school where he taught history in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, about 25 miles northwest of Paris.

Anzorov was shot dead by police after the incident.

The teen Muslim was incensed that Paty had shown students insulting caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed after the father of one student expressed outrage on social media — and later communicated with Anzorov.

The slaying has prompted massive protests in France and prompted a swift crackdown on radical Islamic groups by authorities.
