Murkowski: Time to Begin Full, Formal Transition Process
President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn Democrat Joe Biden’s vote totals are “inconsistent with our democratic process,” Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowki said on Sunday, emphasizing that “it is time to begin the full and formal transition process,” Axios reported.
The Alaska senator became one of the few congressional Republicans to acknowledge Biden as the “president-elect,” as the Trump campaign continues its legal efforts to challenge the results in key swing states that gave the former vice president the victory in the election.
She joined GOP Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah, Susan Collins of Maine and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania in publically acknowledging Biden’s victory, according to Business Insider.
Murkowski stressed that “a pressure campaign on state legislators to influence the electoral outcome is not only unprecedented but inconsistent with our democratic process,” adding that “each state has worked to ensure a free and fair elections process. President Trump has had the opportunity to litigate his claims, and the courts have thus far found them without merit,” Axios reported.
Even though secretaries of state and election officials throughout the country have reported no instances of widespread voter fraud, by both mail-in voting or by doing so in person, the Trump campaign continues to challenge the results in several states, claiming that widespread voter fraud handed Biden the election triumph.
